HIGH FIVES AS HAPPY HOUSING APPRENTICES LOVE THEIR LEARNING CURVE WITH MUIR

TWO happy housing apprentices have been reflecting on the first half of their journey as they prepare for phase two of the scheme.

Gill Roberts and William Cossins have been absorbing as much as possible about working at Muir, meeting residents and making a positive difference to people’s lives.

Gill Roberts and William Cossins They have been developing a host of new skills while becoming valued members of Muir as they work towards a Chartered Institute of Housing Level 2 Housing/Property Management Assistant Certificate.

Gill has spent her first nine months working with one of Muir’s four dedicated housing teams and is now preparing to swap roles with William, who has grown in confidence thanks to his time on the Association’s Customer Service Team.

“I’ve loved everything so far,” Gill said. “Muir is a great place to learn and it has reinforced my ambition to become a housing officer.

Gill Roberts “I have been conducting scheme inspections, meeting residents, signing up new tenants and generally helping to improve communities.

“It’s been great to earn the trust of my colleagues and be given various tasks – I’m glad I’ve been able to help.

“Now I’m looking forward to working with the Customer Service Team and liaising with other teams and learning about another side of the business.

“I’m really enjoying the whole learning process with Muir.”

Gill and William are both required to evidence their learning and undertake case studies as part of the apprenticeship – run in coordination with the Sysco Business Skills Academy.

William Cossins William said: “I’ve enjoyed building relationships across the business and my confidence has improved a lot as a result.

“Working in Customer Services has helped me understand the issues residents face and how to help resolve them.

“I’ve got a lot out of it and I look forward to coming to work each day.

“Working with a housing team for the next nine months will improve my knowledge and give me more responsibility for managing my own time and priorities.

“It will help me understand which area of the business I might like to work in moving forward.”
