IF YOU GO DOWN TO THE WOODS TODAY YOU’LL SEE MORE MUIR BUNGALOWS IN ‘BEARTOWN’

OUR latest Muir residents will soon be bedding down in bungalows fit for ‘Beartown’ following the completion of an intimate Cheshire scheme.

But unlike the reason Congleton got its bizarre nickname, Muir didn’t have the ‘bear-faced’ cheek to dip into the town’s Bible fund to deliver its four new bungalows.

Three one-bedroom bungalows were built for Muir by Humphries Builders for affordable rent, with the remaining two-bedroom property provided for shared ownership.

Congleton bungalow Muir took handover of the cosy new bungalows on January 13th – we’re just hoping Congleton’s ‘Beartown’ nickname doesn’t scare new residents away from these lovely homes.

“There are no bears in Beartown anymore, but there are some great new bungalows and that’s the bear truth of it,” Rob Kirkham, Muir’s Assets and Growth Project Manager said.

Congleton bungalow “We’re really thrilled to receive handover from Humphries Builders because we can’t wait to see them being lived in by new Muir residents.

“The bungalows look absolutely fantastic and I’m sure they’ll make wonderful homes.”

Congleton bungalowCongleton allegedly got its ‘Beartown’ nickname owing to its involvement in the then-popular sport of bear-baiting during the 17th Century - cashing in its fund for a new town bible to buy a more aggressive beast with which to wow more spectators and increase revenue.

There are plenty of references to the legend within the town itself, and it’s understood that Congleton did indeed eventually get its new bible with the help of money made from their bear-faced investment.

Now with a population of just over 26,000 people, we’re sure our new Muir residents will agree that Congleton’s bear is long gone – but it’s always worth checking before you venture outside because you never know!
