KNOW THE SIGNS OF CARBON MONOXIDE - IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE

KNOW the signs of carbon monoxide – it could save your life.
If your boiler or other gas appliances become faulty, carbon monoxide will escape into your home – it can kill.
It’s important you react so you can protect yourself and your family.
You can tell if carbon monoxide is leaking from your gas appliance if:
- The gas flame appears ‘floppy’. Gas appliances need good ventilation to work correctly, do not block vents in your home.
- The flame is burning orange or yellow rather than blue
- The pilot light frequently blows out
- Soot or yellow-brown staining can be seen around the appliance
- You can see or smell smoke
It’s important to test your carbon monoxide alarm each month to ensure it’s working.
Carbon monoxide poisoning can cause you and others in your home to experience headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, become weak, collapse, and fall unconscious. Carbon monoxide can also kill.
If you suspect your gas appliance may be leaking carbon monoxide into your home you should turn it off, open your windows to ventilate your home, move outdoors and report the issue immediately by calling the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 – then report the issue to us on 0300 123 1222.
