LEARN HOW FIRE CHECKS WE DO IN MUIR COMMUNAL AREAS HELP KEEP YOU SAFE

WEEKLY fire safety checks we do in communal areas of properties help keep you safe.
All our properties with communal areas receive these weekly checks – ensuring they meet fire safety regulations.
We work with our fire safety contractor, Openview, to make sure these checks happen. They take around 15 minutes to complete.
Openview don’t need to access your home to complete these checks, they’ll only visit communal areas, such as landings, stairwells or passageways, in the building where you live.
Here’s what they do:
- Test the fire alarm system to ensure it activates properly and gives a warning sound. When testing this, the alarm will sound loudly for around 20 seconds.
-
Test emergency lighting to make sure it works correctly. The main communal lights will switch off to simulate power failures, so the emergency lights come on.
- Inspect the communal area, escape routes and fire exits, to ensure pathways are clear and free from obstruction or trip hazards.
- Inspect communal fire doors to make sure they’re not damaged and they’re not ‘wedged’ open.
- If your building has fire extinguishers, Openview inspect these too, making sure they’ve not been used, damaged or gone missing.
These weekly fire checks help keep you safe. If you notice a problem, please call us on 0300 123 1222 so we can put it right.
