Man goes green for whacky fundraiser
A MAN who lost his wife to cancer has ‘gone green’ in a bid to raise money for those who helped her during her final days.
Ron Chambers, a resident at St George’s Walk in Worcester for the last 13 years, grew a beard and moustache and had it dyed green before getting half of it shaved off, eyebrows and all, in aid of the nearby St Richards Hospice Foundation.
He and his late wife Judith would have celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary on May 19, a date which also coincided with her birthday.
But after losing her in 2014, 70-year-old Ron wanted to do something in her memory to help continue the good work being done at the hospice where she stayed.
“This is just a way of giving something back at getting the staff at St Richards some money to help them continue the good work they do,” Muir Group Housing Association resident Ron said.
“They don’t just look after the residents there but also the family too. They do everything they can for you.”
Ron had half of his hair shaved by Tricia Carrey last week and he would like to thank both her and Sarah Ellen Jeynes, who provided the pictures featured here, for their support along with everyone who has sponsored him.
