Man who received Muir help to continue his studies achieves university degree

A MAN helped by Muir to continue his education has extended his gratitude after obtaining his Open University degree.

Samuel Esiategiwa, a Muir resident in Blackpool, received a Bsc Honours degree in Mental Health Nursing after Muir assisted him by sourcing potential funding.

The 47-year-old had discovered he was unable to receive a grant for the remaining modules of his studies, which had jeopardised his chances of success.

Card However, contacted Muir to say he has now achieved his degree, sending the Association a thank you card after he himself received praise for helping ethnic minority groups to integrate into the area where he lives.

Barbara Stephenson, a Muir Tenancy Services Officer in Blackpool (pictured below with Samuel), who was approached by Mr Esiategiwa when he sought the Association’s help said: “I am absolutely delighted for him.

“It is so pleasing to see Samuel achieve his degree after we were able to help.

“He does a lot to help ethnic minority groups to settle in the Blackpool area.

Samuel Esiategiwa and Barbara Stephenson “I am glad Muir were able to make a difference and we wish him luck with his ambition to become a Mental Health Nurse.”

Mr Esiategiwa eventually received funding from The Talisman Charity after receiving assistance from Muir to source a potential revenue, allowing him to complete modules entitled ‘Making Social Worlds’ and ‘The Uses of Social Science’.

He had previously attained ‘Challenging Ideas in Mental Health’, ‘Counselling Exploring Fear and Social Sadness’ and Personal Lives and Social Policy’ components.

Card His card read: “To Barbara and the entire Blackpool Muir Housing Team,

“Just sending my love and thanks for supporting me achieve a Bsc. Hons degree from the Open University.”

"Samuel and Family."
