More community friendships hatch at sheltered scheme's 'eggciting' Easter event

AN EASTER event at one of Muir’s sheltered housing schemes saw residents continue to build new friendships in the wider community.

The Brighter Days Easter Event held at Muir Group Housing Association’s Tweedsmuir scheme in Chester was thrown open to people in the local community as residents invited them to take part in a host of fun and games.

Tweedsmuir Easter Trivia quizzes, singalongs, Bingo, raffles and a mystery key to the box game all provided visitors with great entertainment as residents shared hot crossed buns.

Scheme manager, Donna Hufton said: “It was fantastic to see such a great turn out to this event.

“Volunteers made everyone feel welcome and comfortable and their hard work payed off as everyone had a fantastic afternoon.

“All of the volunteers, many of whom are Tweedsmuir residents, should be extremely proud of themselves for reaching out to engage isolated members of our local community and offering friendship and companionship.”

The Easter event was the latest in a series of Brighter Days events aimed at reducing social isolation for older people within Tweedsmuir’s local community through Brightlife.

One of the visitors to the scheme for the event, Annie, said: “I never usually get to go out and I’ve had a lovely time.

“Everyone has been so friendly, and nothing was too much trouble for anyone.

“I will remember today for a long time and I’d love to be invited again. Thank you so much.”

Tweedsmuir Easter Residents at Tweedsmuir, which is currently home to 40 people aged over 55, have benefited from £5,596 in Brightlife funding to help them stage events throughout the year.
