More Muir money-saving events planned as residents pocket a big difference
A SUCCESSFUL Muir money-saving event is to be repeated after helping save residents an average of about £400 per year.
Muir Group Housing Association held its first USwitch money-saving event in Burnley, supported by Virgin Media, on February 24th and has announced that it will bid to repeat its success with a similar one in Bury on March 8th.
Residents of the Association are being invited to attend, and fellow tenants are encouraging them to do so after making big savings on their monthly bills.
Extracts from the Burnley event were screened live on Muir Group Housing Association’s Facebook page, with pleased residents explaining exactly how the help they received would make a difference to them.
Maureen Hitchon, 73, (pictured left) was able to save £420 on her annual bills after paying a visit to the Burnley event, and said: “I was really pleased that I decided to go to the event and I would advise other Muir residents to do the same.
“I am so happy to be saving so much money – it is brilliant. Muir really can make a big difference.”
Residents just need to bring copies of their recent utility bills with them to them so Muir representatives can attempt to help them cut cost.
Staff will be using a price comparison service to ensure tenants are getting the best deals and using iPads so residents can follow the quick five to ten-minute process as it unfolds.
67-year-old Eileen McKillop (pictured right with Muir Money Advisor, Wayne Pearson) is another Muir resident who benefited from the Burnley event, saving more than £250.
She said: “I didn’t realise there were cheaper tariffs available. I couldn’t believe it.
“These events are a really good idea and I would advise other residents to give it a go.
“Muir’s money advisors were really helpful and the whole thing didn’t take much more than five minutes.”
Muir Income Services Officer, Joanne Commons (pictured bottom right with other Muir staff at our Burnley event) said: “Residents just need to look at the videos on Facebook to see how successful the event was.
“You could see the delight and relief spread across out tenant’s faces and is was great to help make a positive difference to people’s lives.”
The March 8th event in Bury will take place between 10:30am and 12:30pm in the community room at Muir’s Fusilier Court sheltered housing scheme - 18 Chislehurst Close, off Bolton Road, BL8 2XA.
