MP visits sheltered scheme as residents embrace new IT skills

SHELTERED housing residents at Muir have been showing their Member of Parliament how they are learning new online skills.

Residents at Muir’s Fusilier Court scheme in Bury welcomed Bury North MP, James Frith, at one of their computer sessions after he wrote to congratulate them on a successful funding bid.

And Mr Frith MP told the residents how much he admired their passion to login to those new skills as he shared a morning alongside them following his successful election earlier this year.

“I wanted to support the effort that Fusilier Court residents showed to obtain the funding which is giving them these opportunities,” said Mr Frith MP.

James Frith MP and residents “I got in touch when I heard the funding had been given to them, and they kindly invited me here.

“They have all spoken openly about how happy they are at Fusilier Court, and my first duty as MP for Bury North is to be accessible to them and everybody else.

“Although there are sheltered schemes similar to Fusilier Court up and down the country, the residents here will have unique issues and I encourage them to approach me as their MP.”

Residents are currently enjoying a number of training sessions designed to get them online and increasing their confidence and understanding of computers, to give them access to a wide range of internet opportunities.

Sian Kilcoyne and James Frith MP Sian Kilcoyne, Muir’s Fusilier Court scheme manager said: “James Frith MP was good enough to write to residents congratulating them on their successful funding bid.

“We invited him here so he could see exactly how the funding was being used by residents.

“It has been lovely to have him here taking an interest in what residents at Fusilier Court are doing.”

Fusilier Court residents Residents at Fusilier Court are also preparing to celebrate the scheme’s 40th anniversary in November, with the scheme occupying the site of the former Wellington Barracks - once home to the Lancashire Fusiliers.
