MPS OPERATIVES VOLUNTEER FOR COVID-19 FRONTLINE AS THEY HELP NHS AND VULNERABLE PEOPLE

TWO MPS operatives are forming part of the frontline fighting against COVID-19 as they volunteer to help provide vital supplies to hospitals and vulnerable people.

Alan Stockton and David Smith both work for Muir Property Solutions (MPS) but are putting their free time to excellent use after Muir had to scale back some of its repairs and maintenance services due to the UK Government’s Coronavirus guidelines.

Athough some MPS vans are still on the road, David is using one specifically to help take prescriptions and essential supplies to elderly and vulnerable people as part of the Royal Voluntary Service, while Alan delivers blood and baby milk to hospitals as he continues to volunteer with the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes.

MPS staff “I just thought I’d do my bit,” said David (right), who helps install new windows and doors for Muir residents.

“I heard the RVS were looking for volunteers on the news and when I spoke with MPS about it they offered me a van to use which was great.

“I’ve been getting shopping and things for people who are vulnerable or self-isolating.

“I receive alerts on a ‘Responders’ app on my phone to deliver things to people.

“I drop them off at their door and although I have to keep my distance while they collect it, they are grateful and it is rewarding – I’m glad to do something to help.”

MPS staffAlan (left) has been volunteering with Manchester Blood Bikers since 2017.

The MPS Responsive Repairs Contracts Manager helps provide a vital NHS service – transporting COVID-19 samples, blood, donor breast milk and equipment.

“It’s nice to give something back,” said Alan.

“I’m a biker but I enjoy being able to help people and provide an important service.

“I get good backing from MPS to respond to emergency calls.

“But COVID-19 means I’m on the road a lot at the moment, responding to urgent calls and ensuring samples can be moved as quickly as possible."
