Muir delighted to receive keys for development which uncovered the past
MUIR has taken ownership of an exciting new housing development after work at the historical site was completed last week.
The development of five bungalows at Roman Way in Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire, was officially handed over to Muir Group Housing Association after being completed by T Balfe Construction on a site which has unearthed several ancient archaeological discoveries.
The two-bedroom bungalows, which will be for affordable rent, were developed with grant funding from the Homes and Communities Agency and Huntingdon District Council.
They will be allocated through Choice Based Lettings and will compliment Muir’s existing McCartney House scheme nearby.
Muir Group Housing Association’s Assistant Director of Assets and Growth said she is thrilled to see the development come to completion and believes they will help fulfil a need for more bungalows in the area.
“This is a really special development for Muir, said Sarah, (pictured).
“The Association is delighted to be delivering these desirable homes.
“Muir is very proud to be building homes that are fulfilling a need for people in the area.
“These bungalows are being made available to people requiring this type of accommodation and we are pleased to be able to offer such high quality properties as Muir continues to build on the strong reputation it has established during many years in Cambridgeshire, as well as other parts of the UK.”
The development hit the headlines last year as fragments of Roman roof tile, Medieval peg tiles and unidentified ceramic building materials were all discovered at the site when Allen Archaeology performed a series of archaeological evaluation trenches.
Three pieces of Medieval pottery, a 17th Century clay pipe stem, a fragment of copper alloy plate and six fragments of animal bone, including one of Roe Deer metatarsal, were also found along with two worked flints; one of which has been dated to the Neolithic/Bronze Age.
The items have since been donated to Cambridgeshire County Council and Sarah added: “This development is one that will always be remembered fondly by Muir, not least due to the amazing discoveries made on the site which gave us such a fascinating view of the past.
“We now look forward to these properties creating their own little piece of history for the people who will live there and look forward to welcoming them into their new homes.”
