Muir Group uses pedal power to raise funds for Sport Relief
Staff members at Muir Group Housing Association got on their bikes and raised nearly £400 for Sport Relief after pedalling the equivalent of a return trip between Chester and Blackburn.
The organisation, based in Lightfoot Street in Hoole, Chester, set up a “fixed bike” in the reception of its head office, and workers took it in turns to pedal for the charity. Chief executive Catherine Dixson started the journey off at 9.30am and the last rider got off the saddle at 4.00pm. The team managed to cycle 140-miles to Burnley and back, where the Association has a regional office. A dress down day was also held where staff could make a further donation to the charity.
iTravelsmart, part of Cheshire West and Chester Council’s drive to promote sustainable journeys to and from work and encourage a healthier lifestyle, loaned the bike to Muir Group for the occasion.
“Sport Relief is such a wonderful cause that we felt we had to get involved. And combining it with our commitment to sustainability and encouraging our staff and tenants to find greener ways to travel made perfect sense,” said Amshu Venkatesha, Environmental and Sustainability Officer at Muir Group.
“I’d also like to say a big thank you to iTravel who provided us with a bike for the day. Not only did we raise money for Sports Relief while we were riding the bike, we also benefited from taking part in a healthy activity.”
“We’re really proud as an organisation to raise money for good causes so it’s brilliant we managed to raise money to fund Sport Relief’s vital work. Our staff members who didn’t cycle gave generously and supported their colleagues who got on the bike on the day, and it really helped them cycle as far as they did. I’d also like to say thank you to iTravelsmart for the loan of the bike, and it was great fun,” said Catherine Dixson, Chief Executive of Muir Group.
