Muir Remembers - A series of stories to commemorate Remembrance in 2017

MUIR Group Housing Association is marking the week leading up to Remembrance Day by recognising those who fought on the fields of battle.

Armistice Day takes place this Saturday, November 11th, with Remembrance Sunday commemorations taking place the following day.

In 2017, Muir is recognising the bravery of four recipients of the Victoria Cross - the highest award of the United Kingdom honours system.

Muir’s main offices are situated in Chester (covering Cheshire East and Cheshire West), Burnley (covering our North area) and Cambridgeshire (East).

As such, throughout the remainder of this week, Muir will publish the stories of four VC recipients who were born in these areas.

Meanwhile, Muir residents are already preparing to honour the nation’s fallen servicemen and women.

At Muir’s supported living scheme in Bury, Fusilier Court residents have been adorning the area with large poppies (pictured).

The regiment which saw service in the Crimea, Boer, and First and Second World Wars was recognised by Muir Group Housing Association in 2014.

A memorial stone (below) now takes pride and place near the communal gardens at Fusilier Court, which were transformed thanks to efforts of residents on the Fusilier Court Gardening Committee and a £48,559 grant from the Big Lottery Community Spaces programme.
