Older people encouraged to make a date with special Valentines event
A SHELTERED housing scheme managed by Muir is opening its doors to the wider community on Valentines Day.
Tweedsmuir at Cawdor Drive, Vicars Cross, Chester, is welcoming anyone aged over 50 in the community who may find themselves socially isolated, to join residents for the free afternoon event.
Taking place from 1pm-4pm with transport being provided free of charge, activities include Bingo, Play Your Cards Right, a raffle, quizzes and a buffet lunch.
And scheme manager, Donna Hufton, is encouraging as many as possible to attend following the success of similar events which took place over the festive season, as pictured below.
“We have a really positive response to our Christmas and New Year events,” Donna said.
“So we are opening our doors once again to reach out into the wider community.
“There will be lots of fun on the Valentines afternoon and we really do like to see plenty of new faces as well as old friends too.”
Anyone wishing to take part can register their interest by calling the Tweedsmuir team on 01244 343940 or emailing donna.hufton@Muir.org.uk
The event comes as Muir Group Housing Association’s Tweedsmuir scheme takes part in the Brightlife-funded ‘Brighter Days’ project, designed to help reduce social isolation in older people by bringing people together to celebrate annual events.
Residents at Tweedsmuir, in Chester, which is currently home to 40 people aged over 55, have benefited from £5,596 in Brightlife funding, assisting Muir to host even more events at the site which will be enjoyed, not only by those that live there, but also by other older people living in the local community.
Muir’s Tweedsmuir scheme manager, Donna Hufton said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the Brighter Days project and continue our important role in keeping communities of older people together on special occasions throughout the year.
“Here at Tweedsmuir we remain true to Muir’s values of being caring and inclusive by hosting numerous events throughout each year to ensure residents remain part of the wider community.”
