Residents play their cards right on Valentines Day

RESIDENTS at one of Muir’s sheltered housing schemes showed they know how to play their cards right after inviting the community to join them for a special Valentines Day event.

People living at the Tweedsmuir sheltered housing scheme managed by Muir Group Housing Association, in Chester, are taking part in the Brightlife-funded ‘Brighter Days’ project, designed to help reduce social isolation in older people by bringing people together to celebrate annual events.

Tweedsmuir Valentines And the latest of those events did exactly that as people in the community joined residents for a buffet lunch and a series of games and quizzes to follow the success of similar get togethers which took place over the festive season.

Tweedsmuir scheme manager, Donna Hufton said: “It was lovely to see Tweedsmuir residents inviting isolated older people from our community into their home and making them feel so welcome.

“Lots attended from local community who really enjoyed the Valentines Day event, and we all had a great time with games such as Play Your Cards Right and quizzes as well.

Tweedsmuir Valentines “The Brighter Days project is a great initiative which we really feel is benefiting not only Tweedsmuir residents but people who may feel isolated in the community too."

Residents at Tweedsmuir, which is currently home to 40 people aged over 55, have benefited from £5,596 in Brightlife funding to help them stage events throughout the year.

The next event set will take place to celebrate Mother’s Day.
