RESIDENTS RAISE A GLASS TO VE DAY 80TH ANNIVERSARY AT MUIR LIVING LOCATIONS

VE DAY celebrations saw residents raise a glass to Victory in Europe at our Muir Living locations.
Residents celebrated 80 years since victory was secured to signal the end of the Second World War in Europe - joining in with events across the nation.
The Muir Living residents, some of whom can remember the day itself – enjoyed performances from singers reminding them of some of the wartime and musical songs of the 1940s.
And aside from sing-a-longs and story sharing – they also got to enjoy parties and treats reminiscent of those the day the news broke, as people spilled onto the streets to with ration items they’d saved in anticipation of a victory day.
“It was lovely to see residents taking part in VE Day anniversary celebrations,” Lorna Clare Independent Living Officer at Tweedsmuir in Chester said.
“We all got to enjoy some of the sounds of the 1940s – taking us back to a time where you couldn’t take so many things for granted.
“The event encapsulated the wartime spirit, and it was great to hear some of the residents reminding each other of what that special day was like to live through.”
Rachel Fielding, Independent Living Officer at Smithy Court near Ellesmere Port said: “The end of the war was such an important time in everyone’s lives and we can all appreciate that, regardless of age.
“We certainly enjoyed celebrating the VE Day 80th Anniversary with residents at Smithy Court.
“They had a fun afternoon with lots of flag waving and it was a great way to celebrate.”
