Residents to host 'The Big Lunch' in their new-look garden
MUIR residents who revamped their community garden are looking forward to hosting their Big Lunch on Sunday, June 12.
The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project, aiming to get as many people as possible throughout the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.
Since starting in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all types of communities.
And residents living at the Tweedsmuir supported housing scheme in Chester are looking forward to showing off their new garden to friends and families on the day after giving it a massive makeover.
Donna Hufton, Sheltered Housing Scheme Officer at Tweedsmuir said: “Thanks to the efforts of residents we have a wonderful new garden in which to host our Big Lunch.
“Residents are keen to make it a real community event and are hoping plenty of people come to enjoy the afternoon."
The event will take place from noon to 4pm when there will be a garden BBQ and a treasure hunt if the weather allows.
Burgers, hot dogs, strawberries and cream and ice creams will be available for £1 while people are also welcome to take along their own picnic lunches.
Families and friends are welcome and invites have been put through the letters of houses around the local community as Tweedsmuir residents try to make their Big Lunch as popular as possible.
In April, residents cleared overgrown borders, a central circle for everyone to sit around, and washed paving stones as they helped breathe new life into their community garden at Tweedsmuir.
Their work has resulted in a carpet of colour which gives them a wonderful outdoor space to enjoy and encourages more wildlife into their community, and comes complete with water feature too.
Anyone wishing to attend the event can just turn up on the day, or to find out more about The Big Lunch, visit www.thebiglunch.com
