Tenants take to the internet for Lotto funding bid

ACCESS to the worldwide web was at the fingertips of tenants preparing to bid for a host of online lottery funding.

People living at Chester’s Tweedsmuir Sheltered Housing Scheme literally had the internet in the palms of their hands when they took part in a taster session event.

With the help of online training company ‘We are Digital’, residents got to grips with electronic iPads to find out exactly how regular internet access will benefit them and open up a whole new world of opportunity.

They are now preparing to bid for £10,000 of Big Lottery funding to help make more of their online experience, and other Muir communities are set to follow suit as the initiative is rolled out across all of its areas.

“The internet really can open up a whole new world to residents.

“They are now working with We Are Digital to apply for the lottery funding, and if successful, it will provide them with equipment and training sessions allowing them to get online at the touch of a button.”

About 19 residents took part in the May 10th taster session which saw We Are Digital staff assisting residents with their online experience.

Emma Davies, Supported Housing Officer at Muir said: “The residents taking part really enjoyed themselves and saw the huge potential of doing some of their shopping or banking online, as well as getting ideas for day trips or just learning something new.

“The experience certainly inspired them and we are hoping to roll this opportunity out across all of our housing schemes.”

A similar future event is already being planned at Fusilier Court in Bury and Muir would like to wish residents at Tweedsmuir the best of luck with their funding bid.
