TOP TIPS TO HELP MUIR MAKE SURE YOUR HOME IS GAS SAFE

EVERY year thousands of people across the UK are diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning.
It is a highly poisonous gas. You can’t see it, taste it or smell it, but it can kill quickly with no warning.
Sharon Thomas (pictured) is a Compliance Officer at Muir Group Housing Association.
She is proud to have the opportunity to ensure your safety as a Muir resident and does whatever she can to see that happen.
“It’s a very big and important responsibility,” Sharon said.
“But it’s one that I am dedicated to as a member of Muir’s compliance team.”
“I want residents to know some of the ways they can identify problems with gas appliances as soon as they arise, and make sure they have confidence in the engineers visiting them to conduct vital safety checks.
“Take some time to read the list below, knowing this information could help save your life.”
- Check for warning signs your appliances aren’t working correctly e.g. lazy yellow or orange flames instead of crisp blue ones, black marks on or around the appliance.
- Know the six signs of carbon monoxide poisoning – headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse and loss of consciousness.
Purchase an audible carbon monoxide alarm. This will alert you if there is carbon monoxide in your home.
- Check your engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card. Make sure they are qualified for the work you need doing. You can find this information on the back of the card.
Muir is proud to support Gas Safety Week 2018!
