UPCYCLING SKILLS ON SHOW AS MUIR’S SUPPORTED RESIDENTS GIVE GARDEN FURNITURE NEW GLOW
A GARDEN furniture revival at Rowlands Lodge has seen residents upcycle outdoor seating so they can enjoy more of the lockdown lifestyle.
Residents at the Muir supported housing scheme in Chester picked up their paintbrushes to give their patio furniture a new lease of life.
They’ve been taking on a new outdoor project each year to keep their garden looking great.
And they revived the fortunes of some weathered garden furniture as they gave themselves a lift in lockdown before putting it to good use and enjoying more time in the sun.
“The residents have been perfecting their upcycling skills to wonderful effect,” Georgina Millington, the scheme’s Project Manager said.
“Our Project Officer, Alan Griffiths, has been working with them to make the most of our outdoor space and it’s lovely to see the difference they’ve been making and to see them enjoy using it.
“The garden is a very important area for our residents, especially during lockdown, and they’ve been doing more activities outside which has been great for their wellbeing too.
“They’ve enjoyed giving the patio furniture a fresh new look and it’s giving them more opportunity to sit and enjoy the difference they’ve made to other parts of the garden too.”
Residents have worked to upgrade garden planters and revamp sections of the garden in the last couple of years as they benefited from National Lottery funding to reinvigorate their outdoor space.
And residents have also been taking to social media to stay in touch with friends and family during lockdown – enjoying activities on a newly created Facebook page that means everyone can get together and interact effectively during the lockdown period.
Rowlands Lodge provides supported accommodation for people with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and other suitable applicants.
