Volunteers Week - Gavin Heath
WE’RE celebrating some of the Muir residents who volunteer their time as part of National Volunteers Week 2024 (June 3rd - 9th).
GAVIN Heath volunteered to transform a bare piece of land near his Crewe home, turning it into an area full of flowers and shrubs that’s now attracting local wildlife.
Having a “huge passion” for gardening, he and his dog, Bear, are often out and about enjoying time exploring the great outdoors.
He wanted to enhance the area so it could be enjoyed more by people living in the area, volunteering his time to bring more colour to his community.
“In my spare time, I read articles published by well-known wildlife gardeners, such as Joel Ashton,” Gavin said.
“This helps me with my research when looking for new plants.
“I was pleased to spend my time making this area more attractive for my neighbours.”
Gavin researched the best type of seeds to use to produce shrubs and flowers that would not only brighten up the area, but also attract birds and insects.
Now, Gavin’s neighbours have an eye-catching display of flowers and plants to feast their eyes on while enjoying the sunshine.
His neighbours have told him how lovely the area looks and people often stop to take photos, particularly of the sunflowers.
We wanted to show our thanks and appreciation for all Gavin’s hard work, taking pride in his Muir community, and what better time to do so than National Volunteer week.
We visited him to take a look at the great work he’s done, presenting him with a £20 gift voucher and a certificate of thanks.
