VOLUNTEERS WEEK – MATTHEW HOPKINSON
WE’RE celebrating some of the Muir residents who volunteer their time as part of National Volunteers Week 2024 (June 3rd - 9th).
MATTHEW Hopkinson’s often on-hand to help his neighbours as he works wonders in Warrington.
The Montrose Close resident shows great community spirit to help others maintain their gardens, run errands, and ensure wellbeing.
Matthew’s community spirit proved vital during the Covid pandemic when a lot of his elderly neighbours became isolated.
Since then, he’s continued to support his community, helping to make sure making it remains a pleasant and welcoming place to live.
“It’s all about helping neighbours,” Matthew said. “When I do my garden, I do theirs too if they can’t.
“I help neighbours with their heavy bags – it’s about trying to build a community, everyone round here is so lovely and we all look out for each other.
“It’s good to be able to work together and help where I can.”
Matthew started maintaining communal land next to his home, grass seeding and planting a border for the community to enjoy.
He now regularly helps his less able neighbours to maintain their gardens as well as checking on their wellbeing, collecting shopping and prescriptions for them.
We visited Matthew to learn about the great work he’s done, presenting him with a £20 gift voucher and a certificate of thanks.
