Why cleaning lady Lynn loves living and working with Muir

READING resident Lynn Card took on the task of cleaning up her community when she applied for a position with Muir.
Having grown up in Reading’s Whitley Street area, Lynn became a Muir tenant 34 years ago, and jumped at the chance to help keep the community at its best when the Association advertised a cleaning role.
Now, 27 years after her first day in the job, Lynn continues to take pride in polishing the estates of Jack Price Court (pictured below), Westerham Walk, Taynton Walk and Spring Terrace – a community in which she still lives.
“I literally work on my doorstep, but I have got to know all the residents and they have become friends,” Lynn said.
“I grew up playing in the same play area that my house looks onto now.
“And I have watched other people grow up on the estate from being children too.
“There is a good sense of community spirit here and these estates are right at the heart of everything, close to shops, schools and Reading town centre.
“When people come to live here, they generally stay for many years.”
A mother-of-two grown up children, Lynn’s daughter still lives on the same estate, but when they were young, Lynn’s cleaning role allowed her to work during hours that suited their schooling.
“When I found out Muir were looking for a cleaner I decided to go for it,” said Lynn.
“Being a cleaner is quite a sociable job to have on estates like these, but I also help residents where I can – getting people’s shopping if they can’t get out.
“I like it here, and if I can help other residents, then I will,” Lynn added.
