WHY LEIGH LOVES HELPING MUIR RESIDENTS GET GREAT LIFE-CHANGING RESULTS

HELPING Muir residents get great results doesn’t mean you’ll enjoy his cooking or that he can guarantee a win for your favourite football team.

But when he’s not in the kitchen creating his latest Italian dish, or cheering on Manchester United, Leigh Mucedola devotes his time to making sure Muir residents are supported whenever they need it.

Leigh is having a big impact for residents who benefit from the support he gives them – by helping them access services which can change their life.

Since joining Muir in 2019, he’s been helping residents with learning difficulties, mental health issues, addictions and money worries to tackle things they need a helping hand to resolve.

Muir staff He can help you navigate some of the challenges you face in your life too.

"If someone is struggling to access initial support with other services, or attend a formal appointment alone, then we can tackle it together - breaking down barriers so they grow to do it independently," Leigh said.

“Not everyone has the confidence to do some things alone, but given the right support it’s amazing to see what can be achieved.”

Leigh, who was a mental health support worker for 12 years before joining Muir, can help in a wide range of ways which include:

  • Economic Wellbeing – i.e. Benefits, Debts, Budgeting
  • Enjoy & Achieve – i.e. Volunteer Work, Leisure Activities
  • Be Healthy – i.e. Mental/Physical Health, Addictions, Aids/Adaptations
  • Staying Safe – i.e. Managing Tenancy, Safeguarding, ASB, Probation
  • Making a Positive Contribution – Tenant Involvement at Service Level
  • Not limited to the above – i.e. any other needs identified

“I provide person-centred support,” the Tenancy Sustainment Officer said.

“This means I assess someone’s needs and identify ways to help.

“I promote independence, but I show people how they can do things and take the first steps together to make them less overwhelming.”

Residents have been giving Muir great feedback about how Leigh has been able to help them, saying he has had a massive impact on their wellbeing by changing their lives for the better.
