Wonderful mural created by residents is permanent reminder of community spirit

A MURAL celebrating the people, places and passion of a community has been unveiled by the residents who created it.

Residents at Muir’s Tweedsmuir sheltered housing scheme in Chester received £1,300 in Lottery funding to help create the mural depicting pictures and quotes of people in their community.

They unveiled the impressive mural at the scheme’s August Bank Holiday Summer Garden Party, which saw residents joined by family, friends and people in the community for the event.

And the mural will take centre stage at Tweedsmuir after being put on display in its communal area to give residents and visitors a permanent reminder of the strength gained from community spirit.

Tweedsmuir mural Donna Hufton, Muir Group Housing Association’s scheme manager at Tweedsmuir said: “We linked in with Muir Groups corporate goals People, Places, Passion, as the theme for the mural.

“Residents made a huge effort in creating it and were keen to include pictures and quotes from the people in our community, the places we live and visit, and the things we are passionate about.

“They were delighted to have it ready for unveiling at the Summer Garden Party, which was a wonderful day involving people from the local community which was lovely to see.”

Tweedsmuir muralThe Summer Garden Party was one of the events being held this year as part of the Tweedsmuir scheme’s involvement with the Brighter Days project - which aims to reduce isolation in the local community.

The event included a BBQ, cream teas, live music, raffles, games, prizes and more.
