Resident Focus

Resident photo A new feature for VOICE. We meet some of our residents and get them to talk about their community.

In our first feature, we talk to Winsford resident Graham Cawley. Graham is a keen musician who is passionate about the area in which he lives…

Voice Magazine: Hello Graham, how are you?

Graham Cawley: Great thanks!

Voice Magazine: To begin with, where are you a resident with Muir?

Graham Cawley: The Old Library in Winsford

Voice Magazine: So Graham, how long have you been a Muir resident for?

Graham Cawley: A long time - over 15 years now!

Voice Magazine: Wow! That is quite some time! How have you found Muir as a landlord?

Graham Cawley: Pretty good. I have had the odd issue with some repairs but overall the service has been good, and Muir have been a very good landlord.

Voice Magazine: What is your occupation?

Graham Cawley: I am a musician, music teacher and freelance instrument repair technician. And I'm also a Winsford Town Councillor

Voice Magazine: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Graham Cawley: I’m a 40 something musician, music teacher and councillor. I live with my partner at the In Winsford. I've been a councillor for about a month and have been playing music for almost 30 years, and teaching for over 10 years. I’m a trustee of a local music community group called Bandedge Resurrected. I use my skills as a musician, stage manager and technician to help community groups in the Winsford area. I have stage managed the Winsford Salt Fair and a very successful anti-cyber bullying concert held at the Winsford Academy.

Voice Magazine: What was it that made you decide to become a Councillor?

Graham Cawley: I wanted to get involved and make the town an even better place. I’m passionate about local arts and music, and I want to help young talents in the town.

Voice Magazine: It sounds like you are very passionate about it! How have you found the role so far?

Graham Cawley: Challenging at times, but so far it has been an immensely satisfying and fun experience.

Voice Magazine: What would you say the best thing about your community is?

Graham Cawley: Winsford is a great place. It is full of good people doing their best  to make the town even better.

Voice Magazine: So tell us - just how many instruments can you play?

Graham Cawley: My main instrument is the Guitar Ukulele Bass Mandolin Banjo, but I can also play a little keyboard, drums. And I am also a sound engineer.

Voice Magazine: Finally, Graham - do you have a favourite quote that means a lot to you?

Graham Cawley: I'd have to say that Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple, probably came out with my favourite quote;

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

Voice Magazine: Thanks for your time, Graham!
