Rowlands Lodge is a scheme which provides supported accommodation for people with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and other suitable applicants. It’s a place where tenants can call a home of their own with support from highly qualified and experienced staff.
Rowlands Lodge vision is to be a first class supported housing scheme for adults with learning difficulties and or physical difficulties. Providing up to date efficient, high quality customer focused services.
The scheme aims for each tenant to have an excellent quality of life, building on independence, equality, choice, respect, privacy and dignity.
Highly trained give support and advice. Tenants live safely and are encouraged to actively identify how they can be included in the every day life of their community.
Rowlands lodge works in partnership with health and care agencies, Social Services, Supporting People and many other voluntary agencies to deliver relevant services.
All staff pride them selves on the excellent support and services offered to tenants and consulting and involving tenants in research and reviewing services is constantly on going to ensure they continue to develop the good practice they have in place.
There is one full time manager at the scheme with a part time deputy manager and 3 part time project assistants. Staff also sleep in to ensure the scheme is fully supported at night time also. There is also 24 hour alarm system.
The staff work as a team and work together to help each tenant make the most of living at Rowlands Lodge.
What accommodation is available at the scheme?
The accommodation is certainly more than a place to stay, the staff see Rowlands Lodge very much as 16 homes inside one building. There are 16 one bedroom flats, 2 ground floor wheelchair standard shared rooms for two people, 2 shared units for two people and 8 single.
All are furnished and there is a communal lounge, laundry, and well maintained gardens.
What support is available?
All support is person centred. Once a prospective tenant has accepted a flat, a meeting will be held with all those who may be involved with the person - referee/family/social services and deputy manager to establish an Initial Needs Assessment to identify the level of support needed, any risk that may need to be managed and relevant care that will be required at start of tenancy. A “homeworker” will also be allocated. The Homeworker will provide on-going person-centred support – recognising that each individual has the right to realise and fulfil their aspirations in all aspects of every day life.
Identifying any additional support requirements and helping individuals to access agencies/services such as Supported Employment, the Volunteer Centre, college, clubs and groups - making the tenant feel an active and valued member of their community.
What services will residents receive from Muir Group at the scheme?
Tenants will benefit from scheme and flat maintenance, gardening, cleaning of external windows and internal communal areas, provision of carpets, flooring, curtains and white goods as per tenancy.
What external support/services are provided/can be arranged at the scheme?
Any support/services can be arranged to help the tenant live a fulfilling life.
What are the weekly/monthly rent and service charges?
Paid weekly on Mondays by rent payment card or direct debit.
What kind of tenancy do Muir offer residents at the scheme
If you are from a private landlord or lived with family then a starter tenancy to begin with, which is reviewed during the first twelve Months. If the tenancy is satisfactory within this twelve month period the scheme manager will recommend it that it becomes an assured tenancy on approval from Muir Group. If you already have an existing assured tenancy i.e. council tenant then this will automatically be acceptable on a good report.
What social activities are there at the scheme?
Planned by the tenants Social Committee; which has a staff member as secretary, includes staff/tenants evenings ,BBQ’s, Bingo , art evenings, games evenings, karaoke and much, much more. Tenants are also sign posted to suitable outside clubs and groups.
What can be said about the schemes community atmosphere?
The atmosphere is very warm, polite and a friendly environment at all times where everyone is supportive of each other.
How can people apply for accommodation at the scheme?
All potential tenants are encouraged to visit with family, friends advocate and a social worker and then need to apply to Supporting People Cheshire West and Chester, details and support can be given on-site or my contacting Muir’s customer services.
Any other information about the scheme?
Run on-site the British Nutritional Food Course and Move-on programme.
Resident involvement – tenants are actively encouraged to join various committees including the management and social committees, Muir regional committee etc.
They are also supported by staff to get involved in local community colleges, voluntary work, campaigning groups and the running of Rowlands Lodge from interviewing staff to choosing décor.
Rowlands Lodge was opened in August 1994, situated close to Chester city centre the hospital, Eastway Leaning Disability service and other amenities. Bus stops outside into Chester city and Ellesmere Port, Birkenhead and Liverpool, and the train station is half a mile away.
The local supermarket, post office, GP, pharmacy and dental practices, sport facilities are all within a mile and college two miles.
