APPRENTICES ‘LOVE LEARNING MORE ABOUT HOUSING’ WITH MUIR
TWO Muir apprentices say they're loving learning more about housing as they enjoy an 18-month experience with residents.
Samantha Blythin and Luke Crabtree are nearing the halfway point of their 18-month SYSCO apprenticeship with Muir, as they both look to gain Chartered Institute of Housing Level 2 Housing/Property Management Assistant Certificates.
They’re spending time with housing services and customer experience teams, helping residents resolve a range of issues as they build towards their own careers in social housing.
Samantha was considering a career as a health professional before
“I already admired Muir a lot and knew they were a great organisation for affordable housing and helping residents,” Samantha said.
“I saw the apprenticeship as a good opportunity as I know how housing associations help people across a wide area, such as welfare and asset management.
“The apprenticeship gives me work experience and a qualification so I felt this was the right route for me.
“I was really happy to be offered the opportunity.
“I’m enjoying getting out with Tenancy Services Officers and understanding their roles while meeting a diversity of people.”
Eighteen-year-old football fan, Luke, says he’s been enjoying handling customer queries on repairs and rent as he serves the first half of his apprenticeship with Muir’s Customer Experience Team.
The Liverpool supporter, who also enjoys walking with his dogs, said: “I think that starting with the Customer Experience Team has given me a great base to start in housing.
“I’ve mostly been helping residents with queries on things like rent and repairs which helps me understand issues they face.
“Housing was something I was taking a look at before I saw the apprenticeship was available – then once I learnt more about it my interest grew.
“It’s nice to have different options and this apprenticeship will give me experience in more than one role.
“I’d definitely recommend doing an apprenticeship with Muir. I’m really enjoying it here.”
