SAFEGUARDING - MUIR CAN HELP YOU AND OTHER RESIDENTS SUFFERING FROM DOMESTIC ABUSE

MEN and women can both be victims of domestic abuse, and it’s important to know where to turn for support.
Muir’s Safeguarding support means you can contact us if you’re a victim of domestic abuse, or know of another Muir resident who’s suffering in this way.
You can contact us in confidence to ensure you, your friend or neighbour will receive help they need.
Male victims of domestic violence can seek support from ManKind, an initiative to help men escape domestic abuse.
Women’s Aid also helps to end domestic violence against women and children.
A 2022/23 British Crime Survey highlighted by ManKind showed:
· One in every 6-7 men and one in 4 women will be a victim in their lifetime (2022/23)
· 751,000 men (3.2%) and 1.38 million women (5.7%) are victims of domestic abuse - 483,000 (1.8%) and 964,000 women (3.4%) suffered partner abuse (2022/23)
· 18 men died at the hands of their partner or ex-partner compared to 60 women (2021/22)
· The percentage of gay men (7.9% or bi-sexual men (8.4%) who suffered domestic abuse in 2022/23 is more than for heterosexual men (2.9%)

“More and more men are opening up about being victims of domestic abuse,” Georgina Millington, Safeguarding Champion at Muir said.
“I’d encourage men and women to contact us if they are victims or know of another Muir resident suffering from domestic abuse.
“If you see it or hear it, please share it. Don’t suffer in silence – your call will be treated confidentially.”
