HOW WE CAN HELP INVESTIGATE YOUR SAFEGUARDING CONCERNS

SAFEGUARDING concerns reported to us by you and our colleagues mean we’ve investigated 76 potential issues since April 2024.

We take safeguarding seriously, helping to ensure Muir residents stay safe and free from harm.

When you report safeguarding issues to us, we take action to ensure your concerns don’t go unheard.

Safeguarding Champion“As one of a growing group of Safeguarding Champions at Muir, we have a diverse range of skills and experience and will support anyone who has concerns to share,” Jo Worthington, Muir Safeguarding Champion said.

“Working in social housing for over 25 years, I’ve seen first-hand, where children and vulnerable adults have been at risk of different types of harm, abuse and neglect.

Safeguarding Champion“Being in a position of responsibility means that I have a role to play in ensuring that I do what I can to keep people safe.

“Please, if you see it or hear it, share it with us so we can help.

“No one knows what happens behind closed doors, or the reasons why some individuals aren’t kept safe from harm and sometimes people are unable to find their voice and tell us what’s happening.

“Highlighting a safeguarding concern to us can make a massive difference to someone’s wellbeing.”

One example of a safeguarding issue we’ve been able to resolve involved an elderly resident, was subjected to financial abuse by their adult children.

They were physically disabled and relied on the support of the children to make sure they ate, were bathed and clean and took essential medication.

In addition to keeping their parent’s money, they also neglected their wellbeing, with the resident became quite unwell.

The behaviour came to light, when the resident contacted us to let us know they couldn’t pay their rent.

Working with adult social care, and referring to the Local Adult Safeguarding Board, we secured an Independent Appointee to look after the resident’s finances and take the control away from the adult children.

As we were also concerned about the living conditions and health of the resident, we also worked with partners to find them supported accommodation where they could be properly taken care of and their health improved.
