MUIR ACTIVELY HELPS TO SAFEGUARD RESIDENTS FROM ABUSE OR NEGLECT

MUIR has helped to manage more than 100 safeguarding concerns during the last 12 months as the Association assists children and adults experiencing harm.

Safeguarding means protecting a person’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect, and is another area of support which Muir provides for its residents.

Working together with residents and other agencies, Muir aims to safeguard residents and prevent and stop both the risks and experience abuse or neglect can create.

Since November 2019, Muir’s safeguarding champions have received 102 safeguarding concerns affecting residents.

During that time, Muir has made 31 referrals to relevant local authorities, and 33 to other agencies including mental health teams, the Fire Service and social services.

“We ran numerous training sessions with staff which helped them to recognise possible safeguarding issues when visiting residents’ homes, or when speaking with them over the phone.

“One of the teams who have raised the highest number of safeguarding concerns is our Customer Experience Team who are listening out for signs, rather than seeing physical concerns when dealing with residents on the telephone.”

A safeguarding audit conducted at Muir by external parties in March 2020 rated the Association’s approach as substantial, with no recommendations – highlighting the robust and effective nature of its procedures.
