240,000 new homes needed every year

1.4 million people on the social housing waiting lists

1 million children living in overcrowded accommodation

These are just some of the startling facts which show that the UK is facing a housing crisis.

That is why Muir has joined hundreds of other housing associations and organisations in backing ‘Homes for Britain’.

The campaign brings together all those who believe everyone has a right to a decent, affordable home to call their own. Support has come from people across the country in a bid to end the housing crisis within a generation.

We are currently only building half the number of homes we need every year. A recent story published in the Daily Mirror suggested that FIVE MILLION young people will be forced to live at home with their parents as they cannot afford to buy or rent a home of their own.

The Homes for Britain message has been gathering lots of momentum, which culminated on March 17th, when 2,500 people marched on Westminster to demand change.

The event drew support from a cross-section of the political spectrum, including Hilary Benn, Labour’s shadow communities’ secretary; Ed Davy, Liberal Democrat secretary of state for climate change; Caroline Lucas, Green MP for Brighton Pavilion; and Grant Shapps, chairman of the Conservative Party and former housing minister.

And with the General Election taking place in little over a month, you have the opportunity to show politicians that the public want to see solutions.
